I'll be living in East London!! Most of the weekend was spent packing - all books/cds/dvds/ornaments are packed. Still to be packed are all my kitchen stuff and clothes. Should be ok...

Saturday evening I accompanied [livejournal.com profile] sadaprilsky to the Xandria gig at the Underworld which was fucking excellent. And since they went onstage at 9pm I was out in time to catch D.U.S.T at Bar Monsta, which was also pretty cool. :o) A good evening was had, but I was early home to bed 'cos I was knackered and stressed about packing stuff.

Sunday I met up with [livejournal.com profile] urban_witch and caught a couple of films (Miami Vice and The Lady in the Water) and then went home and packed more stuff.

Today has been largely dull, apart from the appearance of a flyer for a conference I'm speaking at in the post. It's glossy and pretty and has my name on it!! How exciting!! No idea what I'm going to say, but I've got until October...

So glad you were able to come across! I saw you dart across the dancefloor :-)

Well done with packing - still OK for Thursday lunch?

What did you think of the films?

Miami Vice was fairly average action stuff. I enjoyed it, but the plot made no sense at all and it was a bit slow in the middle. Fun though, some nice exploding of things.

The Lady in the Water dragged, the characters kept acting in very illogical ways and I generally didn't think it was very well made. I usually enjoy this sort of film, and have liked much of the rest of M Night Shyamalan's work, but this barely held my attention.

I also saw The Notorious Bettie Page on Friday - that I really enjoyed, I loved the black and white shooting and the real 50s feel of it. And the stockings....

I'll be trying to write these up tonight (coincky-dink?)

MV - looked nice, thin story
LitW - I liked this, didn't spot the illogical actions. A nice 'family' film (although I hate that term, it's been abused by marketeers)
NBP - the blended films were a nice touch, a bit shallow of content though (but she did look good)

two pennies

Miami Vice - rather silly, wouldn't recommend it to other people.
Lady in the Water - I don't think M. Night should try monster flicks again, quite liked the closed community feel though (gotta love a microcosm). I'm not sure what the illogical actions were either, though spotted a few of the mistakes the caretaker made when attempting to figure out which people would perform which function.
The Notorious Bettie Page - was good, though a bit flat. There wasn't much shape to the film, it was just isolated vignettes from her life with no real structure to the story. It stood in an uneasy ground between biopic and docu-drama. I'm also not entirely sure why it kept switching between black and white and colour, other than that the the original photos and film footage would have been in both forms.

Limehouse, the very end of Commerical Road to be precise. It's a bit strange to think I won't be living in South London anymore, but I'm sure I'll get used to it!

Awh you'll be quite local! We're across a bit in Bow. East London is fantastic, I've lived here almost constantly since moving to London, in various parts, and love it :D
