State of the Raven: 2013 edition
Nov. 29th, 2013 01:21 pmI am exhausted. Since getting back from holiday in August things have been a bit of a nightmare and I'm worn out. Happily the two main sources of stress in my life are resolved: Dino is probably fine (although the lump has had a growth spurt again it's under the place where the tooth was removed from which the vet said was fine) and new staff start at work on Monday.
So today, I have a bunch of things to do and I really can't be arsed. My shoulders ache (probably from physio), I'm totally exhausted and really really just want to go back to bed. I've mostly been messing about the internet all morning and failing to do anything that looks evenly vaguely like work. This in turn makes me feel like I'm not doing a good job and kicks off a nice round of imposter syndrome & self doubt. Thanks brain, maybe you should try getting some sleep?
I've not been sleeping very well over the past few months. Hopefully things will improve with a bit of a break over Christmas and I'll feel a bit refreshed coming into the new year.
December is shaping up to be good I think: trip to Carl Hester's yard (Olympic Dressage rider), weekend in Shrewsbury staying at a nice looking hotel and seeing some planes which starts a full two week break from work over Christmas. Hopefully I'll be feeling more inspired in the new year.
I am beginning to wonder about whether I need a new job in the next couple of years. I'm trying to get all my ACCA practical experience stuff signed off over the next month as I have done all the work experience needed and only having the exams to complete will make things easier if I do change jobs. It's a bit of an idle musing at present but maybe I do need a bit of a change. In an ideal world it would be great if I could find something that was a higher rate of pay but only 4 days per week - maintain my current take home (easier after March as I finish paying my student loan off) but actually only work 4 days, rather than working 5 days hours in 4 days like I do at present. What might be more realistic is working 2-3 days in a charity (part time fairly well paid finance stuff seems to come up fairly often) and then maybe a day or two in an accountancy firm. Dunno. Or two part time charity jobs I guess. Idle thoughts...
